Buena Vista Public Library Web Accessibility Statement

The Web Accessibility Statement outlines the Library’s philosophy and guidelines to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA by July 1, 2024, and WCAG 2.2 AA by July 1, 2025, as mandated in Colorado House Bill 21-1110.

The Library is committed to delivering digital experiences that accommodate all users. The Library’s Web Site, buenavistalibrary.org, serves as a portal to its services and products. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Measures to support accessibility
Buena Vista Public Library takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of Library Web Site:

  • Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices for digital products.
  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.
  • Schedule regular monitoring of our accessibility through quality assurance methods.
  • Integrate accessibility into our internal marketing and graphics practices, including meeting contrast requirements and providing alt text for digital images.

Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The current goal for the Library Web Site is to fully conform with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Fully conformant means that the content fully conforms to the accessibility standard without any exceptions.
Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Library Web Site, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

As a public library, we hire the services of third-party vendors to supply an array of digital content to our patrons. The Library will ensure third-party content providers know of our web accessibility policy, and we will favor providers based on their accessibility conformance claims. While we cannot control the accessibility of content provided by third parties, we offer assistance to any library user with reading and accessing content on our site.
Assessment approach
Buena Vista Public Library assesses the accessibility of Library Web Site by the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation
  • External evaluation
